Our History

It all started with Charlie Coiner, a seventh generation Virginia farmer who studied biochemistry and farmed an 80 acre organic farm nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Shenandoah Mountains. Charlie supplied fresh organic produce for a myriad of customers including the patients of the noted doctor made famous in the 1998 film starring Robin Williams, Dr. Hunter “Patch” Adams. Dr. Adams developed a philosophy that incorporated the use of fresh organic vegetables and herbs both for consumption and medicinal purposes which he prescribed together with positive thinking and a healthy lifestyle. Adams’ treatments cured Charlie of a misdiagnosed ailment and Rock Garden was born. The year was 1977.
